Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend we visited my cousin Kelly and his wife Libby at their home just outside of Huntsville, Al in New Market. They own this restaurant, New Market Bar-B-Q. If you are ever in the area you really need to stop by. Their food is delicious.

The whole way there all the kids talked about was "working" in the restaurant. Lane loaded drinks into the cooler along with some other things he did. (I'm not even going to mention how he and Kelly snuck off on Saturday afternoon and went fishing while the women worked the shop.)

One of Lori Anne's jobs was putting sauce into these little plastic cups (didn't get a pic of it) and snapping the lids on. She giggled EVERY time a lid snapped on. She probably filled maybe 50 of them and she laughed EVERY time....it was so funny.

One of the flowers Libby has planted outside.

On Sunday we visited the US Space and Rocket Center.

The kids had so much fun checking everything out.

They also offered some rides you could ride on. Because of the height restrictions they could only ride this one and one other. This one was their favorite and they rode it over and over and came back and rode it some more.
We spent about 4 hours here and didn't really do everything. There was so much information to be read but of course they didn't have the time to slow down and read anything. We'll certainly go again, maybe when they're a little older they'll get more out of it. Hope you all had a great weekend too!

Lori Anne's Awards

Lori Anne had an Awards Day today in her classroom. She received two awards. One for Spelling and one from the Principal for Citizenship. Great job Lori Anne, way to go!

Field Day

Lanes class participated in field day yesterday. They split the class into 2 teams and then they competed against each other in several different categories, there was lots of water involved. He came home telling about all the fun he had and declared that dodge ball was his favorite event of all. (I never remember having days like this in school.

Class Shirt

Lori Anne's class painted t-shirts last week and wore them to school yesterday.
I think they turned out really cute. Lori Anne's hand prints are in the middle and her classmates and teachers thumb prints surround it. She was pleased with the outcome and liked it so much she wanted to sleep in it last night too.

Field Trip

Lori Anne had a field trip yesterday to the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center in Gulfport. I can't believe we live a little over an hour away and had never visited before. She had so much fun (as the following pictures will show). Our first stop was the Train Depot for tickets. All Aboard!
Next she took a plane ride to Mexico where she sampled some of the local cuisine.......

And met this burro.
Then she went to Paris for tea and cake.
We then stopped by the Market to shop for groceries.
Lori Anne helped produce a cooking show for the local TV station.

Forcasted the weather.
And performed an outdoor segment demonstrating the proper use of a kayak.

She was then asked to captain a shrimp boat.

And finished up the day by waitressing at an outdoor cafe.
The day was a huge success, we can't wait to go back!

AR Skating Party

Students who earned a certain number of Accelerated Reader points for the 3rd and 4th 9 weeks were treated to a skating party today at Oak Grove Skating Rink. Lori Anne qualified for the reward and since the rink is within walking distance of my office I had to sneak over and take a few pictures.
Yes, my 7 year old is sucking on a pacifier....lol. These pacifiers light up and flash and almost all the kids HAD to have one.
A few falls while skating, the funniest part was watching her get back up =o)
And what skating trip would be complete without a trip to the snack bar for some freshly made cotton candy and a chocolate yoohoo (YUCK.... I can't believe she actually enjoyed that combination). All in all the trip was a blast and she had lots of fun.

A Great Buy

Lately I have been doing a little updating to the house. A few weeks ago I painted the living room (notice the new color in the background) and since I had moved all the furniture out I decided it was a good opportunity to wax the floors as well (notice the shine). WARNING........if you paint rooms or wax floors make sure the area is properly ventilated (even though it may not be recommended on the instructions and even though you don't even read the instructions until after you've finished and you begin noticing side effects). It's no big secret that my hair has blond highlights but what you might not also realize is that my roots are blond as well....LOL. I did not so much as crack a window while doing all this and the result was not pretty at all and included a doctors visit. After rest and medication I am doing much better and learned a valuable lesson in the process.....ventilate =0).
Now I'd like to let you know about the great deal I found. The entertainment center I had was large and literally falling apart. I decided that I wanted something smaller but it had to be cheap because I'm a cheapskate. I looked at Target and found this cabinet. It was originally 250 but on clearance for 170, still too much for me. I looked at Wal-Mart and found one that was 109 and ok but it wasn't really what I wanted and I didn't want to buy it just because it was lower priced. I thought and thought on it and 2 days later I went back to Target. I had decided that since it was on clearance and that there was only 1 left that I would talk to a manager and see if they would discount it any. I walked back to the aisle it was on and it wasn't there. WHAT!?! I scanned a couple other aisles and still couldn't find it. I saw an associate and asked where MY cabinet was. She said that they had cleared all the clearance stuff off the aisles and moved them to another location. I was off in search of my cabinet and when I found it guess what! It had been marked down again to the bargain price of 60!!! I was so thrilled! As many of you know these things do not come assembled, so guess who put it together all by their self, yep....that would be me =0)
